  1. I agree with David Packman’s opinion, that human genetic engineering will be a big social ethical discussion in the future. That means engineering on human’s before they are born or even modifying babies when they are alive becomes a social issue the society has to think about. I personally think that it is not acceptable to modify a human. Another social issue, discussed in the video, is the ethics of long lives. People have longer life expectations because of good life conditions, such as a better health care. That might lead to overpopulation because of the increasing older population and the new born generation. The space on earth is limited, so that can become a problem in 20 years. Furthermore prison reforms will become a social issue people have to discuss. Linked to human genetic engineering there might be the possibility to modify human’s brains, so that they commit or not commit crimes. David Packman also mentioned the social issue robot prostitution, which might be a discussable topic in 20 years. To be honest I don’t think so. I share the idea that we will have an incoming social equality in the next 20 years because we will not discuss about issues like teaching of sexuality in schools or marriage of homosexuals anymore. To sum it up there are a lot of social issues the society have to discuss but the most important one is the permission of human genetic engineering.

    1. Great response Celine! I like the idea of engineering a person's brains not to commit crimes. Kind of scary, isn't it?

  2. After watching this video, I was interested in the first social issue which David Packman mentioned. To tell the truth , I `ve never thought about it before and now I realize how huge is this problem. The idea that in the future the life expectancy will be increased is pleased all of us, but let`s look at the dark side of it. The growth of life expectancy will lead up to overpopulation , if you want to know what that means just look at the situation in China. Even being the second largest country in the world, China suffers from overpopulation , so their Government was obligated to take serious measures such as:a promulgation of low that forbids having more than one child per family, refusal of medical services to people of certain age and what`s more China is one the countries where Capital Punishment still exists.
As for me, in the future we can face problems such as: lack of water and underrated power of robots. Our body is composed of seventy percent water.Everyday the quantity of fresh water in the world decreases dramatically. So what will we do if world water resource run out and if we create artificial intelligence that will be superior to human beings , how can we be sure that it won`t want to get rid of us?

  3. Human genetic engineering is an ethical problem. We should consider what is ethically correct or incorrect when we manipulate lives with biological technology, even if the consequence of human genetic engineering is beneficial for us. At this point, I do not think that human genetic engineering will be allowed to access to criminal's brain so as not to commit crimes any more because most people are reluctant to perform genetic engineering on human. It takes long time to think about ethic and to decide what is allowed to change human.
Long life is also a social issue in 20 years. As medicine develops, it cures many kinds of illness and makes our life longer. As a result, life expectancy gets long. Long life will facilitate not only over population but aging society. Elder people recover from illness and live longer. In addition, aging society causes another issue. It is the increase of medical insurance costs and pension costs. Government have to spend budget on them even though the government has little annual revenue because of declining birthrate.

In 20years the youth such as teenagers ant twenties have to take care of their parents and grand parents, and give up study or job for the nursing. This problem is not known in general yet. However it will be a severe social issue in 20 years because the decreasing birthrate and the nuclearization of family keep going. The burden of caring per kid gets large. Parents and grand parents depend on their children and grand children. According to the Japanese government, over 170000 of people at the age of 15 to 29 care their family in 2013. There are mainly two reasons why the youth cannot left their family in a nursing facility. One is that they do not afford for care facility fee, even if they have nursing care insurance. The other is that nursing facilities are almost full. Nursing at young age causes some problems. First the youth quit school, university and job. It is mentally and physically quite hard to cope with both caring and study or job. Sometimes on business, bosses do not understand young workers who nurse their family because the boss's generation has no experience of nursing. Then the young workers quit their job. Second, the youth who give up study or job suffers from economic difficulties. They cannot find job because they do not have enough educational background and nursing is an disadvantage when they get job. I am not sure how many countries face the issue of nursing seniors, but this issue I mentioned may be social issue in the world because in many countries, the life expectancy is getting longer thanks to medical development, and the population of elderly people increases, while fewer children are born. The longer people live, the more they likely to get illness. The small number of children will look after their family since they are young. Parents and grand parents will have no choice but to ask children and grand children nursing.

  4. I'm surprised because I didn't think that what David Packman said are going on not only my country but also other countries. Development caring is good thing for sure, but nobody would know such as a big problem. In my country case, percentage of marriage decreases more and more. As the reason they don't do it, they don't have enough money to take care of them family because it gets hard to look for jobs and some companies don't ask for fresh of workers. Plus, jobless rate gradually increases cause of working over time. Someone who realizes that there aren't meeting place made site and app to provide meeting place. I can't believe people using them marry for real. But I think it's not bad because it saves world. And we have to pay more annual pension if this cause lasts.
In 20 years, warming temperature will be coming as a social issue. This has already discussed, but I assume this will be more and more seriously. Cause of making this are gases of car and cutting forests, but we cannot help but do it to live. What we will be the most scared is rising sea level, which deprives us of the place that we can live. There are other social issues. So we won't think about these when the time comes, we have to think about these before the time comes.

  5. Form my point of view, and after listening to what David Packman had to say,I honestly believe that human genetic engineering is going to be a huge social issue in 15 to 20 years because what makes us important and valuable are the choices we make, if anyone could do something to your brain to force you into doing or not doing something, it appears to me that we will no longer be among actuall humans, I know that some people might think that it will reduce criminal rates and that it will be safer out there, which would be partially true, but what they are not taking into conisderation is that people will get dumber, taking risks is part of life, you need to take risk at your job making decisions sometimes, and in many other situations you need to take risks and helps you to creat a personality and makes you smarter. My other point is, if someone can make you not to comit any crime, that person could make some other changes in your brain to get you to do whatever he wants, and that is just an insane thought.
